What is nervous system skincare?

Nervous System Skincare is a more intentional way of caring for skin that considers not only what we apply, but the experience surrounding it. At Kaia, we bring together thoughtful formulation, Ayurvedic principles, intentional touch, and sensory ritual, while recognizing the growing understanding of the relationship between psychological stress and skin. It is skincare that considers the person as well as the skin.

How do I find my dosha, or my skin type?

In Ayurveda, your skin is guided by your dosha, your constitution. Vata skin runs dry and reactive, Pitta skin runs hot and inflamed, and Kapha skin runs congested and dull. The easiest way to find yours is our 2-minute dosha quiz, which matches you to the ritual made for your skin.

Are your products good for sensitive or rosacea-prone skin?

Yes. I created Kaia for my own sensitive skin. Our Calming Blue Face Oil, made with Blue Tansy and its naturally soothing azulene, was formulated specifically for redness, reactivity, and stressed skin. As with any new product, patch test first.

What makes Kaia Skin different?

Kaia brings together three elements rarely considered in the same skincare experience: Ayurvedic wisdom, thoughtful botanical formulation, and the sensory experience of caring for skin. Each formula is made in small batches in New York and personally Reiki-infused by founder Kalpana Semple. Through the Kaia Method, breath, intentional touch, and slow application become part of how skincare is experienced. 

What does Reiki-infused mean?

Reiki is a practice of channeling energy and intention. As a certified Reiki Master, I infuse each product with calming intention throughout the process, from the moment the ingredients arrive to the moment your order is packed. It is my way of sending care along with what you use.

Are your products natural and clean?

Yes. Kaia products are handcrafted in small batches from natural, Ayurvedic botanicals, with no synthetic fragrance or artificial additives.

Are your products vegan?

Most of our products are plant-based, but a few contain beeswax, such as our Face balms (Floral Fusion & Calming Blue) and our Nidra Magnesium Sleep Butter, so the full line is not vegan. Each product lists its ingredients, and I am glad to help you choose vegan options if you reach out.

Where do I start, and how do I build a routine?

The Kaia face ritual is simple: cleanse with the Ayurvedic Cleansing Balm, tone with a Hydrate hydrosol, and seal with a Face Oil suited to your dosha. Add a powder mask once or twice a week. If you are not sure where to begin, the dosha quiz builds the ritual for you.

How do the powder masks work?

Our masks are powders you mix fresh each time, with water, a hydrosol, or another activator of your choice. Mixing fresh keeps them free of the preservatives that premixed masks need, and lets you customize the texture and benefits to your skin that day. Mix, apply for the time noted, then rinse.

Can I use your products during pregnancy?

Some botanicals and essential oils are not recommended during pregnancy. Please check with your healthcare provider before use, and share the product's ingredient list with them. I would always rather you be certain than assume.

Orders & Shipping

How is my order shipped?

We ship via USPS and UPS. You can also choose local pickup at checkout.

How long will my order take?

We fulfill orders within 2 business days. Shipping time then depends on your choice at checkout: free economy adds 5 to 8 days, standard adds 2 to 4 days, and priority adds 1 to 3 days.

Will I get a tracking number?

Yes. You will receive a confirmation email with your tracking number when your order is dispatched. It is sent from a no-reply address, so please check all folders, including spam, and add our domain to your safe senders list.

What is your return policy?

If you return an unsuitable item for a refund, we refund the cost of the item only, not the original delivery cost. If you return a faulty item, we refund both the original shipping and the return delivery costs.

Can I use a promo code?

Yes. You can add a valid promotion code in your basket at checkout.

When is my card charged?

Due to the nature of our payment system, the full cost of the order is charged as soon as it is placed.
